About Rachaell Dockery, MA

Meet Rachaell Dockery

Rachaell Dockery-Boutot is a doctoral psychology intern aspiring to earn her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and become a Clinical Psychologist. Rachaell graduated from St. Andrews University with a double major consisting of a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Bachelor’s in Therapeutic Horsemanship. She holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology: Specializing in Military Psychology from Adler University as well as a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. Rachaell holds a certification in conducting equine-assisted psychotherapy.

Rachaell has experience providing individual, group, family, and couples counseling services to patients of all ages, having worked with patients as young as 2 years old through adults in their 80s. She also conducts psychological evaluations/testing and forensic assessments. She has experience working with the military population and culture (servicemembers, retirees, veterans, family members), first responders, and patients from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and religious beliefs.

Rachaell combines evidence-based therapies with complementary and integrated medicines to treat the whole individual and not just the symptoms to improve the overall quality of life and well-being of the patient. Rachaell utilizes interventions such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), play therapy, sand tray therapy, mindfulness-based and relaxation interventions, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), hypnosis therapy, military-connected couples counseling, motivational interviewing, and client-centered therapy. She uniquely tailors’ treatments to individually meet a patient’s specific needs while keeping a respectful cognizance in consideration of cultural concerns and practice.

Rachaell has an extensive working knowledge of providing therapy to individuals with trauma-related diagnoses, including complex trauma. Her professional experiences and specialties include anxiety-related diagnoses, depression, ADHD, PTSD and abuse (sexual, physical, and emotional), chronic pain, ASD, learning disabilities, developmental delayed related diagnoses, grief, perinatal and postpartum-related challenges, OCD, mood disorders, personality disorders, transition and adjustments, behavioral challenges, communication (family and couples), and infidelity.

Rachaell views therapy as an alliance between the patient and therapist and believes clients should be accountable and present during the therapeutic process. She understands how important it is to identify all aspects of the patient’s life that may impact their overall well-being, such as physical and emotional health, support systems, occupational and social environments, and cultural or religious considerations in the process. She uses a collaborative approach to assist and support patients to be the authors of their own lives by building the necessary skills and tools to help promote change. Rachaell believes the patient is the expert in their own life, and she sees herself as a guide and mentor to assist them along their journey of healing. Within the structure of the therapeutic relationship, patients can access their inner strength and promote change.

Rachaell is passionate about helping patients decrease negative symptoms (thoughts, emotions, and behaviors) and foster hope, healing, and resilience to improve their quality of life. Her goal as a therapist is to provide a safe, comfortable, and nonjudgmental environment where patients can be their true selves and feel accepted while navigating life’s challenges. She believes that appropriately incorporating humor into therapy is essential to help remind patients to be gentle and relaxed as they overcome adversity and achieve goals.

Rachaell thoroughly enjoys the work that she does and feels that it is meaningful and impactful to those that need help. While she is not helping others, she spends time raising her two children with her husband who is a retired Special Forces Green Beret. She enjoys teaching her children about the beauty of life and nurturing their curiosity through hands-on activities on her farm. She understands the relationships created through equestrian associations and enjoys riding horses or working in her garden. She is excited about the future, and all that it may bring. Her goal is to one day create her own equine-assisted psychotherapeutic practice to bring the peace and happiness it can provide to all.
