Katrel Thomas is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern currently pursuing her Master’s degree at North Carolina Central University. She earned her undergraduate degree from Towson University with a major in Psychology and a minor in Family Studies. She is also a member of Chi Sigma Iota, an international counseling honor society that values academic and professional excellence in counseling.

Katrel is passionate about ensuring individuals feel seen, heard, and understood. Her primary approach with clients is person-centered, where she seeks to understand them through their lived experiences and perspectives. Utilizing empathy, genuineness, intentionality, and transparency, Katrel builds trusting relationships with her clients. She embraces a collaborative counseling style, working with clients to help them achieve the changes they desire in their lives. To support clients in their growth, healing, and navigation of reality, Katrel draws from various approaches such as solution-focused therapy, gestalt therapy, family systems, reality therapy, and more. She firmly believes that while one cannot choose their trauma, they can choose their healing.

Katrel considers it an honor to create a safe space for individuals of all ethnicities, races, religions, sexual orientations, political affiliations, and cultural backgrounds. She recognizes that seeking help can be daunting and unfamiliar, requiring immense courage and vulnerability. Yet, she believes it’s the crucial first step toward becoming the best version of oneself.
