The client-therapist relationship is just that, a relationship. This means that both the therapist and the patient play their own part in making the experience the best it can be. How can you ensure that you’re not leaving therapeutic benefits on the table?
Here are some things in your control as a patient, that you can do to take your therapy sessions to the highest level:
- Be honest with your therapist.
- Participate in the therapist’s homework assignments.
- Let your therapist know what is working and not working.
- Notice if you are avoiding admitting or saying something to your therapist and challenge yourself to talk about it.
- Identify what you are trying to get out of therapy and set goals with your therapist.
- If your therapist offends you, speak up!
- Make your appointments a priority.
- Stick with it, change doesn’t happen overnight.
Now that you know how you can get those most out of your therapy sessions, are you ready for yours?
