What’s The Benefit Of Family Therapy?
Our expertise in family therapy allows us to observe and identify how the members of your family are coming together to create its specific dynamic. We highlight how the family works together in ways that are healthy and collaborate with members to change unhealthy patterns.
If you feel your family could benefit, reach out to Acacia to start family therapy in North Carolina. We have two offices in the triangle, located in Cary & Durham. We also offer online therapy to all residents located in North Carolina.
How Do I Know If Family Therapy Is Right For Us?
Some signs that family therapy might be the best modality for your family include: one member seems to display very strong emotions while the rest of the family does not, members seem to function well on their own but there is frequent conflict when members interact, and one or more members of the family complain they are not supported or understood by other members.
Additionally, if there are significant changes or stressors impacting the family dynamic, such as a major life transition or trauma, family therapy can provide a structured space to address and navigate these challenges. Recognizing these signs early and seeking help can prevent further deterioration of relationships and promote a healthier, more cohesive family unit.
Is Family Therapy Covered By Insurance?
While we accept insurance for individual therapy, our couples and family therapy work is systemic, which focuses on relationships rather than an individual diagnosis. Insurance may reimburse sessions using code 90847 (Family Therapy with patient present) only if the focus is on the mental health of one identified client, with others attending in support. Ethically and legally, we cannot document couples therapy as individual treatment, as doing so would constitute insurance fraud. We understand the limitations of this system but must adhere to ethical and contractual guidelines.
